Drone show proposal - this is what a custom drone show costs

Our return to Black Rock City for Burning Man 2022 is one to forever remember. Together with our friends from&nbsp;<a href="https://studiodrift.com/">DRIFT</a> and armed to the teeth with 1.000 drones, we lit up the playa 15 times through 4 different show designs. Two words come to mind to describe our Burning Man 2022 drone light show: absolutely legendary! Missed it? Don't worry, we'd love to share all the ins and outs.&nbsp;

We are very grateful that we could be a part of Burning Man this year, which took place from 28 August until 5 September. That we were able to contribute to the organization’s mission, to produce the annual event known as Burning Man and to guide, nurture and protect the more permanent community created by its culture, is a feat in itself, because this is easier said than done…&nbsp;&nbsp;As you might know, the festival takes place in the middle of the Nevada desert. We had to push the limits of technology once again by flying <a href="https://www.dronestories.com/drone-shows/">drone shows</a> despite challenges such as extreme weather conditions (hallo sand storms!). With 15 different drone light shows flown over the entire event, we are proud to say we pulled it off! &nbsp;

Lighting up the Burning Man skies

The playa is a place were we can experiment with the magic we are creating. At this year's 2022 Burn we had a beautiful opportunity to express a message with technology that inspires people to come closer to each other and to the dream of unity.&nbsp; ‘Space Invaders’ is an ode to the Japanese game that was released in 1978. With ‘Man vs. Machine’ we translated the interesting relationship between human beings and the machines that are becoming part of our lives.&nbsp; Our ‘Endless Show’ is flown to inspire attendees to dream big. Nothing is impossible! The technique enabled us to fly a show for 2,5 hours. More to come soon… Our last show ‘Spirit of the Man’ is a special, iconic, custom designed Burning Man show. It is a translation of the man walking around the playa, burning down and rising from the ashes.&nbsp;&nbsp;

We lit up the playa at Burning Man 2022

Wow, what a week we’ve had. As you might know, Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) took place from Wednesday until Sunday (and way longer for the real party die-hards). Spotify, being an official partner of the most upfront, influential and educational gathering for electronic music and its industry, wanted to show tribute by doing something truly special. How about flying Spotify ADE <a href="https://www.dronestories.com/drone-shows/">drone shows</a> above the Amsterdam waters (’t IJ)?

We love to create and share purpose-driven stories. That’s why&nbsp; hosting a drone show with 600 drones over the north bank of the IJ River in Amsterdam on Friday evening immediately sounded as our cup of tea. During the Spotify ADE drone shows, new DJ mixes from Tiësto, Aluna, BLOND:ISH and Yung Bae were launched.&nbsp;A blistering swarm of hundreds of drones could be seen every hour between 8 p.m. until 11 p.m. We flew above the IJ, close to the sprawling NDSM site, where at the same time the first day of Into the Woods ADE Festival was taking place. Each show lasted 15 minutes and gave visitors extra reasons to celebrate the beginning of the ADE weekend.&nbsp; &nbsp;

4 Spotify ADE drone shows

The show kicked off with a QR code that counted down from 25 to 0. Viewers from all over Amsterdam were able to scan this code. Each show used a unique code that led to the mixtape of the DJ that show was about. The mixtape ran in sync during the show, ensuring you could enjoy the Spotify ADE drone show with sound. Wicked!&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;After the QR code,&nbsp; several abstract images were shown, and the show ended with Spotify's logos and the text: DJ MIXES NOW ON SPOTIFY to let viewers know that they can now find the mixes on Spotify. Las Vegas will be returning to the Formula 1 calendar next season. To tee up next year's race, Caesars Palace hosted an all-day launch event to give fans a taste of the action to come. During this party, we flew a beautiful Formule 1 Las Vegas drone show above the palace on Saturday, November 5th 2022.

"We are thrilled to welcome our fans to the launch of the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix!"  - F1 CEO and President Stefano Domenicali

In our view, there’s no better way to welcome the Formula 1 fans than with three stunning light shows. The first show flown was over Caesars Palace for the introduction of the drivers and teams. With 10 teams each consisting of 2 drivers, our Formula 1 Las Vegas drone show was an unique way to show the audience who they can expect to see in the living flesh during the race next year. This show was sponsored by T-Mobile .&nbsp;&nbsp;The 2nd show we flew during the opening of The Killers' concert in the VIP village. 3000 invitees could enjoy 400 drones announcing the countdown of ticket sales, creating a cool tangible kick-off moment of Formula 1 coming to Las Vegas. Formula 1 organized this show.&nbsp;&nbsp;The 3rd show was flown for Heineken. Their well-known logo could be seen at the end of the killers' concert, hovering above the podium. Are we really comparing drone show companies to Van Gogh? Well, just a little bit, because there certainly is some truth to it. The Oxford Dictionary defines art as “the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.” Ok, that is actually quite a solid and clear definition for something that can be so hard to grasp. The main factors here are human creative skill producing something that is appreciated for their beauty or emotional power.

What is art?

Right, so we’ve assessed the foundation of (drone) art.&nbsp;&nbsp;Human creative skill is needed. In the entire process of creating a drone show, human creative skill is key. For us, the entire show hinges on taking an idea or phenomenon and turning it into a thought provoking concept. Working this further out into a show flown by hundreds of drones takes a lot of human creative skill. &nbsp;Furthermore, (drone) art is typically expressed in a visual form. Believe us, it does not get much more visual than a drone show, where we light up the sky and turn it into (y)our canvas.&nbsp; &nbsp;In conclusion, the work should be appreciated primarily for their beauty of emotional power. Great drone art has the unique power to be simultaneously beautiful and triggering emotional responses. During a single show of 12 minutes, people often experience different emotions, such as awe, surprise and enjoyment.

It includes a survey of the site, making sure we have all the right permits and getting the drones to said location. Sounds like a lot of work? It’s even more than that. However, with our years of experience and vast network, we get sh*t done, ensuring everything’s ready for the final stage.&nbsp;This naturally is the show. The required team goes to the site, preps all the equipment and the launching site and (re)checks if everything is in place and working as it should. Then, finally, it’s showtime! We can then proceed with the third step, where we have to get our hands dirty. Checking out the site, ensuring all the permits are in place and getting the drones to said location for example. Also, we have to program the drones. Each drone is equipped with a set of LED lights, and the operator uses specialized software to program the drones to create different patterns and designs. The software can also be used to program the drones to move in specific ways, such as flying in formation or creating a "dance" choreography.&nbsp;Once the drones have been programmed, we are ready for the final step, showtime! Our unique Nova Sky Stories Star Drones are launched into the sky. They are controlled by a central computer system that sends commands to each drone, telling them where to fly and what lights to display. This allows them to move in perfect coordination, creating a seamless display of light and movement.&nbsp;One of the most impressive aspects of drone light shows is their ability to create 3D displays. There have been quite a few changes in the Guinness World Record for drone light shows.&nbsp;On September 15, 2018, a Chinese drone company flew a show with a total of 1,374 drones, which flew in perfect synchronization to create stunning 3D images in the night sky over the city of Xi'an.&nbsp;&nbsp;However, on March 29, 2021, a drone show was flown in the skies above Shanghai by luxury automotive brand GENESIS to celebrate the official entry of GENESIS into the Chinese market. At the climax of the show, a total number of 3281 drones came together to create the Genesis emblem, breaking the previous record of 3051 drones. Thus, they are the reigning champion of the Guinness World Records title for the most drones airborne simultaneously.&nbsp; However, in 2022, another Chinese drone company has broken the Guinness World Record for drone light shows once again. They broke 4(!) Guinness World Records, including the largest number of drones flying in the same performance with 5164 drones aerial at the same time. Wow, what a year 2023 was. Once again, a year of pushing boundaries and telling thought-provoking stories in the skies.
