Drone light shows have taken the world by storm in recent years, with their ability to create awe-inspiring aerial displays of light and color. With the technologies (software and hardware) constantly evolving, we can do more and more during said drone shows. One of these impressive feats, is the number of drones we are able to fly. Something Guinness World Records has not missed. So, what is the Guinness World Record for drone light shows?
There have been quite a few changes in the Guinness World Record for drone light shows.
On September 15, 2018, a Chinese drone company flew a show with a total of 1,374 drones, which flew in perfect synchronization to create stunning 3D images in the night sky over the city of Xi'an.
However, on March 29, 2021, a drone show was flown in the skies above Shanghai by luxury automotive brand GENESIS to celebrate the official entry of GENESIS into the Chinese market. At the climax of the show, a total number of 3281 drones came together to create the Genesis emblem, breaking the previous record of 3051 drones. Thus, they are the reigning champion of the Guinness World Records title for the most drones airborne simultaneously.
However, in 2022, another Chinese drone company has broken the Guinness World Record for drone light shows once again. They broke 4(!) Guinness World Records, including the largest number of drones flying in the same performance with 5164 drones aerial at the same time. The other three records were most formations (88), longest drone show (26 minutes and 26 seconds) and largest light image (with 5164 drones). Impressive! You can find the aftermovie of this attempt below.
The remarkable achievements given above are testaments to the incredible possibilities of drone technology, and it is sure to inspire many more incredible displays in the years to come. We are already looking forward to seeing which other drone light show records are going to be broken. Who knows, we might end up taking a swing at one ourselves!
We are flying 2 shows per night (at 21:00 and 23:30) on the 19th, 20th and 21th of June 2023 during the Cannes Lions Festival or Creativity. See you there?
